Miranda Lambert Finally Releases "Run"—A Song She Wasn’t Ready to Share Until Now
Miranda Lambert has always been known for her raw, heartfelt storytelling, and one of her most personal songs has finally seen the light of day. "Run," a track she wrote during the making of her 2016 album The Weight of These Wings, remained unreleased—until now.
A Song a Decade in the Making
When The Weight of These Wings dropped in 2016, it was immediately labeled Lambert’s "divorce album." The project followed her highly publicized split from Blake Shelton in 2015 and was divided into two records: The Nerve and The Heart. Each section gave listeners a deeply emotional look into her journey of heartbreak, healing, and self-discovery.
Although the album featured brutally honest tracks like "Tin Man" and "Vice," Lambert made the rare decision to hold back "Run." In a recent TikTok post, she revealed why:
“I wrote this song ‘Run’ during The Weight of These Wings era. At the same time as songs like ‘Tin Man’ and ‘Vice.’ But wasn’t ready to release it till now.”
Why Lambert Held Back
Unlike other tracks on Wings, "Run" was the only song Lambert wrote entirely on her own. Its lyrics offer a candid reflection on a failing relationship and the realization that she was always destined to leave:
Well, it wasn’t that you didn’t have the answers
There was just no question in my mind
I was gonna run
And you took too long to see I was unhappy
And I took too long to tell you that I was gonna run
I was gonna run
The song’s vulnerability made it difficult for Lambert to release back then, as it seemed to cut even deeper than the rest of Wings. Many fans have speculated for years about the true reasons behind her divorce, and "Run" may finally provide some insight.
A Long-Awaited Release
"Run" finally made its debut on Lambert’s 2024 album Postcards From Texas, and it’s already striking a chord with listeners. Now serving as her latest single at country radio, the song has also received an official music video, further amplifying its impact.
While some of the best country songs often get overlooked on radio, fans are hopeful that "Run" will get the attention it deserves. If anything, Lambert's decision to wait nearly a decade to release it only proves that some songs age like fine wine—becoming even more meaningful with time.
